Matthew Mc. Conaughey Still Interested in Season 3 Return. Season 1 of HBOs True Detective was a hit for the premium channel, thanks to lead performances from Matthew Mc. Conaughey and Woody Harrelson, and the direction of Cary Fukunaga. Although season 2 of the crime drama wasnt nearly as well received as the first, the series did help popularize the anthology format still used by hit shows like Fargo. Set against the backdrop of rural Louisiana, season 1 followed detectives Rust Cohle Mc. Conaughey and Martin Hart Harrelson as they investigate a gruesome ritual murder. The shows slow burn style and eerie atmosphere allowed for an exploration of some dark ideas  all of which were packaged into a stylistic eight episode arc. That, of course, meant Cohle and Harts story was done once the season ended. Still, its likely that some fans would be interested to see where the two detectives are now, and it seems like Mc. Conaughey feels the same way. In a recent interview on The Rich Eisen Show via EW, Mc. Conaughey revealed he would be up for appearing in season 3 of True Detective. The actor explained that it would all depend on whether or not creator Nic Pizzolatto had the right material or not. There may not currently be any official plans for another season, but Mc. Conaughey said hes open to it for sure. True Detective season 1 was praised for many different reasons the characters being one. Watching Cohles abstract philosophy go up against Harts short tempered personality made for an engaging dynamic. While their relationship certainly had its ups and downs, the first season ended with the two putting their personal troubles aside and helping each other stay alive. And even though the climax was satisfying in its own right, theres no telling where the characters futures have led them. Despite the second season of True Detective not living up to expectations, the show may still have some life left in it. The big question now is whether or not Pizzolatto would be interested in revisiting the same characters when he set the series up to be an anthology. Still, with the series future in question, its possible that bringing back the popular duo would persuade HBO enough to let the series continue. Mc. Conaughey has expressed on multiple occasions that hes game for more True Detective, so maybe his repeated excitement for it could also help nudge the network in that direction.
